West Coast CX Points Prestige

Optimizing USA Cycling Points and Ranking Opportunities

How It All Started

Historically, the West Coast has had few opportunities for cyclocross racers to earn points through the USA Cycling ranking system. While our company has organized and promoted the Sacramento Cyclocross series as a grassroots series since 2014, we hear frustrations of some of our racers who have aspirations of competing at the highest levels and observe that little investment is made to bring high level races to the west coast because of a lack of USAC involvement.

After looking at exactly how USAC ranking points are calculated, we developed a new series in 2019 – the West Coast Cyclocross Points Prestige – to:

  1. Give amateur, West Coast-based cyclocross racers the best shot possible to get USAC ranking points.
  2. Provide highly ranked West Coast-based cyclocross racers an incentivized training ground that also helps our community build their points base.

To accomplish this, we combed through the USA Cycling Results and Rankings FAQ page, and optimized every part of our series based on their calculations. We introduced the West Coast CX Points Prestige in 2019 as a series of five races in one weekend, which was a lot to take on for racers and race staff alike. In bringing this opportunity back, we’ll spread the five races out and utilize race courses that are already constructed for the Sacramento Cyclocross Series.
